Does Galaxy Fit 3 Support VO2 Max Score?

VO2 Max on Galaxy Fit 3

Samsung introduced several new health and fitness features with the Galaxy Fit 3 fitness tracker. However, some important features are still missing from the device. One of the most requested features is the VO2 Max score, which is currently not available on the Galaxy Fit 3.

At the moment, users cannot check VO2 Max on the Galaxy Fit 3 through Samsung Health or the band itself. The feature has not yet been included in the tracker’s software. However, there is a possibility that Samsung could add VO2 Max support in a future firmware update.

Nowadays, many affordable watches and fitness trackers come with a VO2 Max score. In the market, Xiaomi Smart Band series, Huawei Band series, and even Amazfit watches have this health function, so users can expect it on their tracker.

Samsung has previously added new health features to older devices through software updates. For example, the company later introduced the VO2 Max feature to the Galaxy Watch 4 through an update, so there is a chance for it.

What Is VO2 Max?

VO2 Max is an important fitness metric that measures the maximum amount of oxygen your body can use during daily exercise, like outdoor running. It helps determine your cardiovascular fitness and endurance level.

A higher VO2 Max score usually indicates better aerobic fitness. The score is calculated based on several factors such as age, physical activity, and heart rate during workouts. Generally, a VO2 Max score above 40 is good and above 60 is considered excellent for athletes and other fitness users.

How VO2 Max Works on Galaxy Watches

On Samsung Galaxy Watches, the VO2 Max feature is integrated with the running activity in Samsung Health. The smartwatch automatically calculates your VO2 Max score during outdoor running sessions.

To measure VO2 Max on a Galaxy Watch, users must:

  • Run outdoors for at least 10 minutes
  • Cover a distance of around 4 km
  • Maintain a stable GPS signal

The watch analyzes heart rate data and movement patterns to estimate the VO2 Max score. After you stop your running session, then based on your workout, it will give you a final score and what that means for your body.

Will Galaxy Fit 3 Get VO2 Max?

I have been using the Galaxy Fit 3 since the first week of its launch in February 2024, and since then waiting for the VO2 Max feature, but I have still not received this feature. Recently, Samsung has released a new software update with firmware version R390XXU0AZA3 for the Galaxy Fit 3, and there is no sign of this feature.

Further, it lacks a built-in GPS feature, which is essential to track your distance, and that may also be a reason why Samsung is not thinking about it, though it can use connected GPS from a paired smartphone.

Since VO2 Max can be added through software updates, Samsung may introduce the feature to the Galaxy Fit 3 in a future firmware upgrade. Many users have already requested this function in the Samsung Community forum and Social media pages, as it is considered a key fitness metric for athletes and fitness enthusiasts.

If Samsung does not add it through updates, the company may introduce the feature with the next-generation Galaxy Fit 4 smart tracker.
