Samsung is preparing its next-generation smartwatches, and a new leak suggests that the upcoming Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 could bring a major connectivity upgrade, but not for everyone. According to fresh information, Samsung may equip the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 with 5G support, although this feature could remain exclusive to the United States.
As per early findings, the European variant of the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 carries the model number SM-L715F. Test firmware for this version has already surfaced, indicating that development is actively underway. However, there’s a catch: all current signs point toward this European model being limited to 4G LTE connectivity. In other words, countries like India and some other countries will also get the 4G LTE model, not the 5G one.
Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 5G for US-Only
This comes as a surprise, especially since earlier reports claimed that Samsung would introduce its first-ever 5G-enabled smartwatch with the Watch Ultra 2. While 5G on a smartwatch may not deliver the same dramatic impact as it does on smartphones, it still plays an important role. Faster connectivity can improve call stability, reduce latency, and enhance overall responsiveness when the watch is used independently without a paired smartphone.

For European users, a 4G-only smartwatch in 2026 might feel like a step behind, especially when paying premium pricing. However, based on current development progress, Samsung appears to be focusing primarily on the 4G version for Europe, with no concrete evidence of a 5G variant in the pipeline so far.
That said, there is still a possibility that Samsung could introduce a 5G model for Europe at a later stage. Apple has also shifted its focus to 5G-enabled Apple Watches. The company has followed similar strategies in the past, rolling out different variants across markets over time. But as of now, nothing officially confirms such plans.
Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 Launch Date
The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 is currently in development alongside the Galaxy Watch 9 and Watch 9 Pro/Classic series. Samsung is expected to unveil these devices at its next Galaxy Unpacked event, likely scheduled for July 2026, where the company may also launch its next-generation foldable smartphones – Galaxy Z Fold 8, Flip 8 & Fold Wide.
