Samsung is moving quickly with its software updates this year. While most Galaxy users are still waiting for the One UI 8.5 beta based on Android 16, the Galaxy S23 Ultra has already been spotted running Android 17 in early testing. After the Galaxy S26 series, it is the next Samsung phone to appear with the upcoming major software update.
Galaxy S23 Ultra Spotted Running on Android 17
A US variant of the device recently appeared on Geekbench, revealing Android 17, which is Samsung’s term for One UI 9. The phone scored 1743 in single-core and 3919 in multi-core tests. Since this is an early build, the performance isn’t final and should improve with further optimization in the next few internal tests.

What’s interesting is the timing. One UI 8.0 is still the current version for most users, and One UI 8.5 is only available in select regions like India, the US & South Korea, etc. Despite that, Samsung has already started working on its next major upgrade internally. If we go with Samsung’s policy, then One UI 9 or One UI 9.5 could be the last major software update for the Galaxy S23 series.
The Galaxy S23 series launched in 2023 with Android 13 and comes with four years of OS updates. This means Android 17 will be the final major update for these devices.
Early leaks suggest that, in the next firmware, Samsung could bring a fresh interface, new Galaxy AI features, and a changed notification panel. Samsung could introduce Android 17 around July with Galaxy Z Fold 8 & Flip 8, followed by a beta rollout before the stable release.
