Samsung Rolls Out Surprise New Galaxy S26 Update in North America

Galaxy S26 Ultra April Update

Samsung has just released a surprise new S948BXXS2AZD4 firmware update for the Galaxy S26 users, even after already releasing the April 2026 security patch earlier this month. The latest firmware is currently going live in North America, with initial reports coming from Mexico. Users are surprised by the new firmware, which carries the new firmware code, however confused about the changes that come with it.

Earlier, Samsung pushed an update on April 1 that upgraded the device to the April 2026 security patch level with a build ending in AZCL. Now, the company is sending another update in the same month, identified by the PDA build version ending with AZD4.

Second Galaxy S26 April 2026 Update

This new update comes with a package size of around 540MB, which suggests it is not just a minor patch but also includes system-level improvements. However, Samsung has not mentioned any major new features in the changelog, indicating that the focus is mainly on stability and performance enhancements.

Galaxy S26 Second April 2026 Update

At the moment, the rollout appears to be limited to Mexico, but Samsung typically expands such updates to more regions over time. Users in other North American countries may receive it soon if everything goes smoothly. The Samsung Galaxy S26 runs on One UI 8.5, and users can manually check for the update by heading to Settings > Software update > Download and install.

Interestingly, the April 2026 security patch is still being retained in this release. Since May is still some time away, Samsung has not included a newer security patch but instead seems to be refining the current software experience.

One possible reason behind this update could be a fix for a recently reported camera issue. Several users have noticed a strange glitch where images appear slightly cut or stretched from one side after capturing. Samsung had also promised to deliver a fix to the display and document scan, so users can also see improvements in these areas.

Samsung has already acknowledged this issue and confirmed that a fix is on the way. While the official changelog does not specifically mention a camera fix, users receiving the AZD4 update are advised to test the camera performance after installing it.

Overall, this looks like a maintenance update aimed at improving stability and possibly addressing known bugs. With One UI 8.5 already delivering a smooth experience on the Galaxy S26 series, Samsung appears to be focusing on polishing the software further.

Meanwhile, the company has also started working on the next major upgrade based on Android 17, with early One UI 9 internal testing reportedly underway. For now, Galaxy S26 users should keep an eye out for the AZD4 update, as it may bring important behind-the-scenes improvements along with potential bug fixes.
